Erica Chandler and Christine Freberg scored 14 points apiece to lead the San Luis Obispo girls basketball team to a 46-43 upset win over undefeated St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
The Tigers led 25-22 at the half and held steady down the stretch behind buckets from Chandler and Freberg. Jessica Judge added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots for the Tigers.
Tatiana Dunlap led the Knights with 21 points. She averaged 31 points in the previous three league games.
The Tigers snapped St. Joseph's 10 game winning streak and improved to 8-3 in league and stayed in third place. The Knights fell to 10-1 in league and 16-8 for the year. St. Joe, which already clinched at least a share of its second Pac 7 league title in the last three years, can still win it outright with a win at Paso Robles on Friday.
Idle Pioneer Valley is 9-2 in league and plays in Atascadero. The Tigers finish league play on Friday at Righetti.
The Arroyo Grande girls finished league play with a 41-34 home victory. The Eagles finished the season 3-9 in league and 10-15 overall. Freshman Ashlyn Herlihy returned from a broken nose sustained a few weeks ago to record a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Atascadero topped Righetti 57-39. Sabrina Degnan led the Hounds with 19 points and Maddie Leong added 16 more. Atascadero improved to 6-5 in league and 14-8 for the year. The Hounds are ranked #7 this week in CIF's Division 3AA and have clinched a spot in the playoffs. Righetti stayed winless in league at 0-11 and 6-20 for the year.
