Pain common for breast cancer survivors

A majority of breast cancer patients who had surgery are still in pain a year after their procedure.

The study out of Finland looked at surveys filled out by more than 800 breast cancer patients. Half reported experiencing mild pain a year after surgery, just over 10% had moderate pain and 3% were in severe pain.

Factors linked to an increased risk for pain were chronic pain before surgery, preoperative pain in the area to be removed, depression, chemotherapy, and radiation.

Researchers say this highlights the fact that pain is a very real issue for breast cancer survivors.
