Jorge Marin scored the game-winning goal about five minutes into double-overtime to lift the Pioneer Valley boys soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 win at defending Pac 7 League champion San Luis Obispo on Wednesday night in a battle of ranked teams.
The Panthers improved to 8-1 on the season and 1-0 in league. PV is ranked #3 in CIF's Division 5. The Tigers, who are ranked 8th in the division, dropped to 5-3-2 overall and 0-1 in Pac 7 matches.
The Panthers scored twice in the first twenty minutes of the match. But the Tigers cut the deficit in half on a 33rd minute goal from Lukas Holocher on a score assisted by Peter Delkeskamp. The Tigers tied it at 2-2 in stoppage time on a goal from Trevor James.
The game entered halftime tied 2-2 and stayed that way until Marin's goal in the 95th minute of the match. The Tigers had a few good looks the rest of the way, but could not score the equalizer.
The Tigers edged the Panthers last season for the Pac 7 crown.
