Paso Robles' long vacancy for a new police chief is over tonight. The city council swore in Robert Burton to the position at it's meeting tonight.
The council appointed Burton June 18th after a competitive hiring process that involved a nationwide search, and the first candidate they zeroed in on backing out of the job after it was offered to him.
Burton has been with the police department for 17 years and has lived on the Central Coast for more than 40 years.
He has served as the acting chief of police since March of 2012 when then Chief Lisa Solomon handed in her letter of resignation.
