Pioneer Valley soccer hopes to score community support with wins

The Pioneer Valley High boys soccer team remains the highest ranked soccer squad on the Central Coast. The Panthers are third this week in the CIF-Southern Section Coaches Poll for Division 5.

PV, which made its first-ever CIF quarterfinal appearance last season, is off to an 8-1-1 start. The Panthers may be one of the area's best kept secrets or least on their own campus they are. Players hope they can create more of a fan base on campus with each win they score along the way. "I want to just show them that soccer is the main sport at school and they've been getting results every year and people need to come out to watch it," said senior forward Juan Robles.

"When it comes to playing different teams we do 110 percent in every single game and we just play our hearts out. This is what we do best," added junior goalie Miguel Mendez.

PV opens Pac 7 play on January 2 at the home of defending league champion San Luis Obispo. The Tigers are ranked 8th this week in Division 5.
