Police investigating sexual assaults near Cal Poly campus

San Luis Obispo Police are investigating after they say three women were sexually assaulted near the Cal Poly campus over the weekend.

Police say on Saturday night around 11 p.m. two young women were walking in the 1200 block of Foothill Boulevard when they were approached by a man who grabbed their pants, tried to pull out their underwear, and then took off. The women described the man as between 19 and 20 years old, standing six feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. They told police he was wearing a black sweatshirt and black baseball hat.

Then, at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday, police say a second attack happened in the 700 block of Foothill Boulevard. Police say a man pulled a woman into the bushes as she waited for a taxi. Police say the man forced his hands down the woman's pants and sexually assaulted her. She told police he was between 19 and 20 years old with olive-colored skin, short, dark hair, and a slender build. The victim said he was wearing a dark shirt with a dark hoodie and light-colored baggy jeans. The man took off as the taxi arrived.

Police say the victims were not physically injured.

Investigators are looking into whether these assaults are related to two similar assaults that happened near Cal Poly in March and April of 2012.

Police are recommending that people who are out late stay in groups and walk in well-lit areas.
