Santa Maria Police say a driver was cut and had his car keys stolen after an attempted carjacking in Santa Maria Saturday evening.
Around 6:24 p.m., police say a man and a woman asked a driver for a ride near Jones and College.
They say he agreed, and drove the two people to the area of Atlantic and Railroad, where they asked him to pull over.
That's when police say the man grabbed the driver, and placed him in a headlock with a knife to his throat before demanding money and ordering him to get out of the vehicle.
They say the victim grabbed the knife and the man dropped it, but the victim continued driving, refusing to get out of the vehicle.
A short time later, police say the man grabbed the driver again, telling him to get out, and once again, the driver refused.
They say the woman then grabbed the keys from the ignition and both the man and the woman ran way.
Police say the driver, from Santa Maria, received a minor laceration to his hand when he tried to grab the knife from the carjacker.
Police say the attempted carjackers are described as a Hispanic man and woman, both 18 to 20-years-old with thin builds and wearing gray sweats.
They say the man has a shaved head and the woman has shoulder-length hair.
Santa Maria Police asks anyone with information regarding this incident to call the department at (805) 928-3781.
