The TV should not be used to calm or entertain fussy babies, according to researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
They observed more than 200 African American women and their babies and found the infants that watched the most television were fussier.
Babies as young as three-months old were watching two-and-a-half hours of TV a day.
The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages TV for children under age two. They say it does not have an educational benefit and may establish unhealthy habits.
