The Royals continued their mission for history on Friday. The Mission Prep football team boarded its bus for Arcadia at noon. Mission is playing Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia in the CIF Northeast Division championship game Friday night at 7pm.
This is Mission's first title game since 1964. The Royals are seeking their first title in program history.
The Royals beat Rio Hondo Prep 47-14 earlier this season, but they are not taking the Kares for granted. "It's been ten weeks since we've played them and they've gotten a lot better. We've gotten a lot better. So it's going to be a different game, but we're really excited for this opportunity and we're going to go and give it our all," said quarterback Tyler Baty, who has thrown for 43 touchdown passes this season.
"I got to see my brother play in the semifinal a few years ago and they lost so to be a part of the team that goes to the finals and hopefully brings home a championship, it's a great feeling," added junior running back Patrick Laird.
The winner will also likely receive an invite to next week's CIF Division IV Regional Bowl game, where a spot in the CIF State Bowl Game will be on the line.
KSBY Sports has a videographer at the game, so we will have highlights on KSBY News at 11pm Friday night.
