Salvation Army member tries to break bell ringing record

A member of the Salvation Army is attempting to break the bell-ringing record.
You may remember last year, Lt. Matthew Jensen rang the bell for 41 straight hours in Santa Maria.
This year, Tim Hatmaker will try to beat the all-time record of 60 hours.
Hatmaker is a Santa Maria homeless volunteer bell ringer overcoming alcoholism through The Salvation Army Santa Maria Corps' Celebrate and Life Recovery programs.
Eight contestants all across the U.S. are competing.
Hatmaker will be at the Foods Co. on South Broadway in Santa Maria starting at ten Tuesday morning.
Each participant must follow rules that could push them mentally and physically:
1. Contestants must ring a bell continuously while at the kettle stand.
2. Participants must stand the entire time.
3. No 'self-playing' instruments or other aids may be used at any time during the attempt.
4. Contestants accrue 5 minutes of rest after each 60 minutes of ringing.
5. Breaks are the only time contestants are permitted to stop ringing, eat, sit or lie down, or leave the kettle stand, use the restroom or sleep.
6. Contestants may drink non-alcoholic drinks, but that may not disrupt the ringing activity.
