The San Luis Obispo City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved a motion to hold a special election in order to fill the seat vacated by Andrew Carter, who took a job with the city of Guadalupe.
The council agreed to return as soon as possible with information on the financial implications of the special election, which would be a vote-by-mail contest.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for February 19.
