San Luis Obispo residents celebrate at Firefighter's Ball

The community came together Saturday, for a fun and great cause.

The Firefighter's Ball took place at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo Saturday afternoon. The event included dinner, a silent and live auction, and dancing.

Money raised by the event will go towards the John W. Callahan Heart Safe Project. Callahan died of a heart attack in August of 2010. After his death, his wife started the foundation to help spread Automated External Defibrillators, or AED's, throughout San Luis Obispo. According to the American Heart Association, more than 95% of cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital. An AED improves survival rates, and can save up to 40,000 lives each year in the U.S.

The Heart Safe Project is always accepting donations. All cash or check donations should be made payable to SLOYMCA and mailed to SLOFFA, Attention: Jody Larson, 2160 Santa Barbara Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
