A San Luis Obispo woman is making her mark on history.
28-year-old Cassie McFarland has designed a commemorative coin for the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
McFarland is a local independent artist.
She stumbled upon the competition by luck about one year ago and entered on the last day.
The coin celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Hall of Fame.
It features a unique curved shape, which was perfect for McFarland's baseball glove design.
"I thought it was a great challenge to choose something that was very relevant, would evoke nostalgia," McFarland said, "kind of a catalyst for sentiment, and to the general public, and what better than a baseball glove."
McFarland won $5,000 for her design.
She says the gold and silver coins are sold out, but the clad one is still available on the U.S. Mint website.
