The Santa Barbara Police Department says major and minor crimes as a whole are down over the last two months.

Robberies, overall property crimes and commercial burglaries have all reportedly decreased throughout the city; however, the rate of residential burglaries remained about the same.

Burglaries and thefts from vehicles increased in the last month, but police say they are still down compared to the same time last year.

The rate of violent crimes has gone up. Police attribute that to an increase in incidents involving homeless suspects and victims, and the number of incidents involving late-night bar patrons.

Police say the number of gang incidents remains unchanged.
