The Santa Barbara Police Department says thefts of catalytic converters are happening throughout the city.

Police say Toyota trucks parked in the 3900 block of La Colina Road, 1200 block of Coast Village Road, and 1200 block of E. Gutierrez Street are the main targets.

Police think a possible suspect vehicle is a gray colored Ford Focus.

A catalytic converter is an emissions control device.

Catalytic converters are often stolen because they contain small amounts of precious metals that are melted down and sold by thieves.

Police tell KSBY News the thefts usually happen overnight. Victims and witnesses have reported hearing the sound of an electric saw being used.

If you see suspicious activity immediately report it to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
