The Central Coast is home to some spectacular wildflowers, and this weekend, locals are celebrating them.
It's the Third Annual Wildflower Festival in Santa Margarita this weekend.
The family-friendly event is free to attend, and there are activities for all ages.
The event features a California wildflower photo contest, guest speakers, and nature talks about local wildlife and plants.
"We have wildflowers. We are the gateway to Carrizo. We are the gateway to Shell Creek, and we have wildflowers here, so it's not something we have to go out and plant. We've already got it here, so let's take those wildflowers and share them with the world," said Jill Gallagher, the event creator.
The festival marks the kickoff of the 2013 wildflower season.
The event continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 22070 H Street.
