Santa Maria City Council chose Willie Green to fill vacant seat.
Fourteen people applied for the open seat on the Santa Maria City Council.
The council had been deadlocked on how to fill the open seat since the vacancy was created in December after Alice Patino became mayor.
The applicants include former Councilmember Mike Cordero and Etta Waterfield who lost a race for city council by just two votes.
