The Santa Maria Fire Department now has some colorful hoses to help put out fires.
The new hoses, that are different colors, were purchased by the department with a grant of just under $132,000 dollars. The four hundred and forty hoses are each fifty-feet long.
They replace the traditional old hoses which were worn out. The upgraded system of new color-coded hoses will help fire fighters be more efficient fighting fires, according to Santa Maria Fire Department officials.
"The blue line their having trouble on, that line it needs more pressure,it needs assistance, we need to go in and save those guys, we need to pull them out," said Allan Widling, Santa Maria Fire Department Battalion Chief, describing how crews will know which hose line is having a problem.
The new lines will help fire fighters respond quicker to issues that may arise while fighting a fire.
