Santa Maria High School is on lockdown after an explosive device was found by a city worker Wednesday morning in a park across the street, according to Police Chief Ralph Martin.

Martin said the Santa Barbara County bomb squad is en route to Santa Maria to handle the device, which was found on the Morrison and Lincoln side of the school.

Classes are continuing at the school as police wait for the bomb squad.
