Santa Maria Natural History Museum kicks off Earth Day celebrations early

Earth Day is coming up on Monday, but the celebrations are already starting.

On Saturday, the Natural History Museum in Santa Maria hosted an Earth Day event.

The event kicked off with a local group of Campfire girls doing a peace song. There was also a speaker on climate change.

The family-friendly event even featured a story circle and crafts, bike raffle, zero waste event, and barbecue and cookie sale.

"It's a lot of fun, a lot of entertainment. We have a full pack of our museum with all the butterflies, the elks," said Tahir Masood, the Museum's Board President.

This was the 13th year for the event.

The museum is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
