Santa Maria police have identified the driver they say was involved in a DUI accident Wednesday morning.
It happened just before 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 100 block of East Donovan, at the corner of Via Rubio and Donovan.
Police arrived at the scene and found that the driver of a silver 2004 Hyundai SUV had hit a streetlight pole and a utility pole in the area, severing the utility pole from its base and causing a power outage to the immediate area.
The city streets department and PG&E responded to repair the damage.
Police say the driver of the Hyundai was identified as Michael Thomas Kolsbun, 53, of Nipomo. They say he was arrested for driving under the influence.
Kolsbun suffered minor injuries in the accident. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
He faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs.
