Santa Maria Police report one man dead after officer-involved shooting

Santa Maria Police tell KSBY News one man is dead after an officer-involved shooting.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Sunday night at a home on East Sunset Avenue in Santa Maria.

Police say they responded to reports of a domestic dispute after a woman called 911 saying two people ran into her home after a woman was attacked.

The woman who lives in the home told police her female neighbor was stabbed by a man, before he chased her into the home. The woman hid in her bathroom as she called police.

Santa Maria Police tell KSBY the two people were husband and wife.

Police say the man then ran into the back yard and hopped the fence into another yard.

That's where police tell KSBY he was confronted by officers and tried to attack them. Police tell us the man, who has not been identified, was armed.

Officers tell KSBY a Santa Maria Police Department officer then shot and killed the man.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.

Police say the woman who was stabbed in the chest is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
