Santa Maria woman faces animal abuse and burglary charges

A Santa Maria woman is facing animal abuse and burglary charges.

Nellie Marie Palacios is accused of stabbing and killing a cat at her ex-boyfriend's house in the 4600 block of Hummel Drive in Orcutt.

The sheriff's office says it happened Thursday around 3:30 p.m.

A witness told deputies he saw Palacios choke and stab the cat.

Investigators say they also found several items and paintings in Palacios' car that she allegedly took from her ex-boyfriend's house.

Palacios told deputies that it was her cousin's home, and the cat attacked her.

Her bail was set at $50,000.
