Santa Ynez man killed while jogging

The California Highway Patrol says a jogger was killed after being hit by a minivan in Santa Ynez Friday morning.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. on Refugio Road at Deer Trail Lane.

CHP says an 89-year-old woman from Solvang was stopped at the intersection and, when she began to cross the intersection, hit the 45-year-old man from Santa Ynez, who CHP says was also entering the intersection.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

CHP says it was dark and weather conditions were clear when the accident happened.

At this time, they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation and the man's name has not been released.
