After leading the Santa Ynez High baseball team to its first-ever Division 5 CIF Southern Section championship, Warren Dickey was named 2014 All CIF Southern Section Baseball Coach of the Year Monday.
The Pirates went undefeated in the Los Padres League and had an overall record of 29-1 before beating Village Christian 2-0 in the Southern Section Division 5 Title game. Zach Snyder won the 2014 All CIF Southern Section Baseball Division 5 Most Valuable Player.
Snyder tallied 10 wins during the 2014 season and posted a 1.45 ERA in 58 innings pitched, striking out 32 batters. At the plate, Snyder had 31 hits and a .443 average. Teammates Colby Barrick and Zach Torra were also honored on the All CIF Southern Section Team, which is selected by the California Baseball Coaches Association.
Barrick, named the Los Padres League's Most Valuable Player earlier this month, played in center field throughout the season and batted .438 with 42 hits. Torra split his time defensively between first base and pitching on the mound with a 0.58 ERA in 72 innings pitched with 51 strikeouts. Torra had 11 wins this past season.
Four local players were named to the ALL CIF Southern Section Division 7 Team. Shortstop Emmany Godinez, who hit .452, and utility player Gehrig Kniffen, who hit .538, from Coast Union are both on the roster. From Dunn, utility player Shannon Carroll with a .517 batting average and first baseman Jack Eisaguirre, with a .526, also made the team.
