The reigning Big West player of the year is the conferences player of the week. Cal Poly senior Molly Schlemer won the award after scoring a career-high 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a near upset at UCLA.
The 6-5 center was a force in the Mustangs 96-89 loss to the Bruins on Saturday. Schlemer made 14 of 20 shots from the floor. The Righetti High grad's 16 rebounds were one short of her top career mark, seven of the boards came on the offensive end. The career-high in scoring is a one point improvement from the 28 points she scored against Pacific last year and New Mexico State this season.
Schlemer leads the Mustangs in scoring and rebounding with 17.8 points and 10.8 boards per game while hitting 55 percent of her shots from the floor.
The Mustangs (6-7) open Big West play on Wednesday, January 8 in Hawai'i.
