The Shandon Unified School District released the following statement on the departure of Superintendent Rod Wallace today:
The Shandon Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees has announced the departure of Superintendent Rodney Wallace, effective October 16, 2013.
The Board has secured the services of veteran superintendent Tom Apkarian with the support of the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education to assist the District on an interim basis during the transition period. The Office will also assist the District in preparing for the search for a permanent Superintendent who will guide our district moving forward.
With significant changes coming in education such as a new funding formula, Common Core Standards and new assessments, the Board agrees that now is the time to move forward in positioning our district for future success. The hiring of a Superintendent is one of the Board's most important functions, and the Shandon board will perform its due diligence in finding a Superintendent who shares the Board's vision for success.
The Board wishes to thank Mr. Wallace for his service to the District and wishes him well in future endeavors. Among his accomplishments were the emphasis on team building and the implementation of team meetings allowing teachers to provide intensive support to students in a small group setting.
