A cold storm system originating from the gulf of Alaska will dive southward and across the interior portions of California Thursday night into Friday, then shift eastward into the great basin on Friday night. Due to its projected track, this system will likely have limited moisture, however, it will be cold. there will be a threat of showers across much of southwest California from Thursday night through Friday night, with showers lingering in the mountains into Saturday. While there remains considerable uncertainty in the amount of precipitation that may occur with this system, there is high confidence that much colder weather and low snow levels will impact the region.

Snow levels should lower rapidly Thursday night with the onset of precipitation, lowering to as low as 3000 feet by Friday morning. There is a chance snow levels could potentially fall as low as 2500 feet between Friday afternoon and Friday evening. while the mountains will likely see a few inches of new snow, the Cuyama valley could also see light snowfall accumulations as well.

In addition to the cold temperatures and low snow levels, this weather system will also likely bring gusty west to northwest winds.

There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms on Friday with the potential for small hail.

The upcoming weather can become dangerous for unprepared hikers and campers. The combination of gusty winds, low visibilities, snow showers, and icy road conditions could create hazardous driving conditions through the mountains and deserts. anyone planning to travel into the mountains and deserts later this week should check the latest road conditions and bring extra warm clothing and supplies.A cold storm system originating from the gulf of Alaska will dive southward and across the interior portions of California Thursday night into Friday, then shift eastward into the great basin on Friday night.
