Community members can take to the ice Friday evening to benefit children around the world.

A skate benefit is being put on by Operation Christmas Child (OCC).

The organization collects shoebox gifts and hand-delivers them to needy children around the world during Christmas.

Last year, OCC sent thousands of packages to children in more than 130 countries.

Skate night takes place at the Blades on Ice ice rink in Atascadero.

Sessions begin at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
