Software glitch affects San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County computers

Computers in San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County were affected by a security software glitch that caused them to shut down and reboot repeatedly Wednesday morning.
The computers were all running the corporate version of the antivirus software, McAfee, which released a software update that misidentified a common computer file as malware.
The problem affected Windows XP users around the world, including hospitals, schools and government offices.
Information technology directors for San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County estimate 50-70 percent of county computers in both areas were affected by the problem. Private businesses around the Central Coast also reported the problem.
McAfee has since posted a replacement for the original update, and county computers have been fixed and are running normally.
