St. Joseph will play for the championship of the third annual tournament that it is hosting. The Knights never trailed in their National Prep Classic semifinal game against Cathedral Christian, winning 58-54. Senior guard Case Bruton led St. Joseph with 23 points as the Knights improve to 3-0, all three wins have come at the Prep Classic being played at Hancock College in Santa Maria. It was the first loss of the season for Cathedral Christian. The defending Division-3 San Diego Section champions are now 7-1.
St. Joseph jumped out to a 13-0 lead and had a 29-18 advantage at the half. The Knights biggest lead came with 3:40 left in the third quarter when they extended their advantage to 38-21. Cathedral Christian went on a 19-2 run to tie it at 40 with six minutes to play. St. Joseph senior guard Isaac Murillo stopped the run with a three pointer and the Knights led the rest of the way.
St. Joseph will play Westchester from Los Angeles in the championship game on Saturday night at 7:30pm at Hancock. The Knights beat Westchester 67-62 on Wednesday in an open game before the tournament portion of the Prep Classic started. St. Joseph is the first Central Coast team to make the championship game of the National Prep Classic.
