Mari Stewart scored 32 points and hauled down 17 rebounds as the Templeton girls basketball team stayed unbeaten in the Los Padres League with a 60-39 win at Santa Maria. The senior has a double-double (double figure points and double figure rebounds) in all 19 of the Eagles games this season.
Templeton improves to 17-2, 7-0 in the LPL. Santa Maria drops to 8-9, 1-6. The teams will play again on Wednesday in Templeton. That will be just the third home game of the season for the Eagles.
Templeton has a one game lead in the LPL on Morro Bay thanks to an overtime win in Morro Bay on January 15.
The Eagles have never won a League title but with seven seniors are poised to change that. "It's something that we really work for and it's something to keep pushing us so it's exciting that we might make school history. It's just a lot of fun this year" said Stewart who is averaging 21 points and 18 rebounds per game.
Wednesday's game with Santa Maria starts a four game homestand for Templeton. The Eagles host Morro Bay on February 7.
