Templeton basketball splits double-header at Atascadero tournament

The Templeton Eagles came close to sweeping their double-header during opening day of Atascadero High's 48th annual Christmas Basketball Tournament on Thursday.

Templeton won its opener 60-50 over Pioneer Valley. Jackson Wheeler led the Eagles with 16 points and 5 assists. Clark Burton scored 14 points, while Andy Garretson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Eagles played the finale of day one against Montclair. Templeton led 55-45 after three quarters, but ended up losing 66-61. Garretson led Templeton with 23 points, Wheeler added 13 and Burton scored 12. Alex Elterman scored 6 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Aiden Sarbeck tallied 10 rebounds to go with 5 points.

Templeton plays host Atascadero at 7pm on Friday. The Hounds beat the Eagles earlier in the preseason.
