The Central Coast celebrates Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

It's Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, and Central Coast locals took full advantage of the holiday.

Doc Burnstein's in Arroyo Grande held their 5th Annual Ice Cream for Breakfast Pajama Party Saturday morning. They handed out free scoops of their homemade maple bacon ice cream, and the first hundred guests also got free shirts.

"I think ice cream should be a breakfast food every day of the year, but then I'm a little biased. As Bill Cosby once joked about cake, when you think about it, it has milk, which is good and healthy, it's got bacon, it's got maple syrup, so we're basically putting the whole breakfast together in the scoop here today," said Greg Steinberger, the owner of Doc Burnstein's.

Steinberger says they gave about 150 scoops out today. He says, even though the maple bacon flavor seems strange, it's one of their most popular ice creams. "People are often hesitant to try it, but once they try it, they keep coming back and they love it. It's a really great flavor," said Steinberger.

International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day was invented in the 1960's by two parents. It was their way of making the dreary winter months a little bit sweeter for their kids.
