The cost of treating Dementia patients now tops that of heart disease and cancer.
Researchers at the Rand Corporation found it costs anywhere from 150 to 200 billion dollars to care for Dementia patients each year.
A majority of the money is spent on institutional or home-based care, rather than medical expenses. Doctors expect this number to more than double by 2040 because of the increasing aging population.
The individual cost of dementia is between $40,000 and $50,000 a year.
