David Thoreson scored a game-high 23 points to lead the San Luis Obispo High boys basketball team to a 66-46 Pac 7 opening win over Pioneer Valley on Wednesday.

The Tigers improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in league under first year head coach Laurie Decker. PV dropped to 0-1 in league and 2-10 for the season.

Thoreson and Tigers trailed 17-14 after the first quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to open the second quarter. Thoreson found Parker Lauritzen for an easy two and added 7 points himself to fuel the run that gave the Tigers the lead for good.

Carlson Schwoerer added 13 points for the Tigers, who were forced to play without starting point guard Blake Shapazian. The senior injured his foot during a game in late December.

Junior Andrew Madrigal led the Panthers with 11 points, while Codie Corbin added 10 points.
