Thoreson leads Tigers to win over Australian team at NPC

David Thoreson scored a game-high 20 points to lead the San Luis Obispo High boys basketball team to a 61-57 win over a developmental team from Victoria, Australia on Thursday during day two of St. Joseph's third annual National Prep Classic.

The Tigers improved to 4-3 on the season after bouncing back from a three point loss to defending CIF champion Pasadena on Wednesday night.

A jumper from sophomore guard Thomas Georgiadis gave the AUBD Sharks a 22-17 lead with 6:07 to play in the second quarter. After head coach Laurie Decker called a time out, the Tigers responded with a 14-0 run fueled by 8 points from Marley Stallings and capped by a steal and layup from Jonathan Edwards.

The Tigers led 33-27 at the half and built a 55-37 lead to start the fourth quarter after outscoring the sharks 22-10 in the third quarter.

Stallings finished 10 points, while Parker Lauritzen and Jonathan Edwards added 8 points apiece for the Tigers. Georgiadis led the Sharks with 13 points.

The Tigers play Sylmar on Friday at 3:30 pm in Hancock's gym.
