Thoreson-less Tigers lose big to Brighton at Christmas Classic

Forced to play without leader and top scorer David Thoreson, who was out with an illness, the San Luis Obispo High boys basketball team struggled offensively and lost to Brighton High 64-19 on Wednesday during Challenge Night of the 14th annual Mission Prep Christmas Classic.

The Tigers made just 3 field goals in the first half, all of which were in the first quarter. They trailed 22-9 after the first 8 minutes and scored just one point in the second quarter to trail 34-10 at the half.

Blake Shapazian led the Tigers with 6 points, while Carlson Schwoerer finished with 5 points.

Bryce Callahan led the Bengals with 11 points, while Tremaine Nisson added 10. Brighton features 6-2 guard Brandon Miller, who's committed to UTah.

Brighton is ranked as high as fifth in the state of Utah this season and will compete in the National Division Bracket this week. The Bengals play Bishop Montgomery at 1pm on Thursday in a National Bracket game.

The Tigers will play in the Elite Division on Wednesday. They return to action on Thursday at 5:30 pm against Lutheran in another challenge game.
