David Thoreson and Blake Shapazian combined to score 49 points to lead the San Luis Obispo High boys basketall team to an 80-53 win at Morro Bay on Tuesday night.
Thoreson was red-hot in the second quarter and scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the eight minute stretch. The Tigers led 22-15 after the first quarter, but behind Thoreson outscored the Pirates 28-10 in the second quarter to take a 50-25 halftime lead.
The Tigers, under first year head coach Laurie Decker, improved to 3-2. Morro Bay dropped to 3-2 under first year head coach Mike Godsey.
Shapazian added 24 points, while Kwab Farkye added 10 points for SLO.
The Pirates were led by Frank Molina and Luke Munds, who had 12 points apiece.Nick Tovar added 10.
Also on Tuesday, the Templeton boys beat visiting Soledad 65-51 to even their record at 1-1. Alex Elterman led the Eagles with 16 points, while Jackson Wheeler and Andy Garretson added 14 points apiece. Templeton returns to action Thursday against King City at a tournament hosted by Coast Union.
