For a lot of people on the Central Coast, the Carlin Soule Memorial Polar Bear Dip in Cayucos is a New Year's tradition.

Soule started this tradition more than 30 years ago. He owned a way station in Cayucos and thought the town was dead on New Year's Day and needed some excitement.
