Tigers end ten year drought, beat Eagles for first time since '03

A ten year wait, which at times has been excruciating, is finally over for the San Luis Obispo girls basketball team. The Tigers beat rival Arroyo Grande 51-40 on Friday for their first win over the Eagles in ten years. They had lost 21-straight meetings with the Eagles.

The Tigers improved to 3-1 in Pac 7 League action and 9-8 overall under second year head coach Dan Monroe. The Eagles dropped to 1-4 in league.

Jessie Judge and Morgan Liebscher hit back-to-back three pointers to give The Tigers a 24-17 at halftime. They outscored the Eagles 18-9 in the third quarter to take a 16 point lead into the fourth quarter. During the third quarter, Christine Freberg hit two 3-pointers and Erica Chandler scored 6 points.

Chandler led the Tigers with a game-high 15 points, while Liebscher added 13 points. Freberg finished with 10 points.

Krista St. Denis led the Eagles with 13 points, while Olivia Galindo added 9. The Eagles were forced to play without freshman starter Ashlyn Herlihy, who broke her nose on Wednesday against Atascadero.
