Tigers hungry for first league title since '06

The San Luis Obispo High girls soccer team is earning its stripes in the first half of Pac 7 League play. The Tigers re-entered the CIF Coaches Poll this week as the 7th ranked team in Division 3.

Led by five seniors, four of whom are starters, the Tigers are a perfect 4-0 in Pac 7 action and 11-6-1 overall.

They handed rival Arroyo Grande its first loss of the season last Friday 2-0 behind first half goals from Kelsey Harper and Taylor Wampler.

First year head coach Kaleena Andruss credits her team's all for one and one for all mentality for its success.

"We don't have superstars. We don't have anybody, who has an ego. Everybody wants to play as a team and contribute to the greater good of the team and not be selfish or be that super star. That's what is making us really successful, we play as a unit," said Andruss.

Senior Brady Candaele leads the team with 10 goals. Harper and Darla Berkefeld have 5 goals apiece. Junior goalie Lily McCann has been dominant in net for the Tigers.

The Tigers are looking for their first league title in seven years. They host St. Joseph Wednesday at 6:30 pm in a league match.
