Tigers pound Knights 10-3, enter virtual tie for first in Pac 7

The San Luis Obispo High baseball team continued its charge toward the top of the Pac 7 League standings with a 10-3 win over St. Joseph on Wednesday at Sinsheimer Stadium.

The Tigers improved to 7-4 in league after taking their second-straight game from the Knights. St. Joseph fell to 3-5 in Pac 7 action. The series finale is on Friday at St. Joseph.

The Tigers scored 3 in the second, 2 more in the third and 3 in the fourth to build a commanding 8-0 lead. The Knights scored twice in the fifth, one on a wild pitch, the other run came in on a basehit to center by Tim Mahoney that scored Bobby Maestas.

Tigers starter Jake Niezen needed just 82 pitches to finish off the Knights in a complete game victory. He allowed 3 runs, 6 hits and struck out 3.

Shortstop Garrett Giovannelli went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and drove in one run. RJ Hassey clubbed a double in 2 at-bats with 1 RBI and one run scored. Ryan Anderson went 1 for 2 with an RBI, 2 stolen bases and a run scored for the Tigers.

Idle Arroyo Grande remains in first place in the league standings by percentage points with a 6-3 Pac 7 mark. The Eagles' winning percentage is .667, while the Tigers are at a .636.
