Top 10 Local Sports Stories of '12: Lompoc's 32 game winning streak

The sixth nominee for Central Coast sports story of the year is the Lompoc football team extending its winning streak to 32 games. The Braves had the state's longest winning streak before losing to Serra in the CIF-Southern Section semifinals. Serra went on to win the Division-2 State Championship.

Lompoc won the Los Padres League for a third straight year, the Braves outscored their six league opponents, 320-37. Lompoc still hasn't lost a regular season game since 2010, a streak of 22 regular season games.

For Braves head coach Andrew Jones the 34-21 loss to Serra was his first postseason loss in his three seasons as coach. Jones won his first ten postseason games.

Lompoc finished the season ranked #32 in Cal-Hi Sports' final State Poll of the year. The Braves were the only Central Coast team in the popular prep website's Top 50 poll.

Do you think Lompoc's winning streak being snapped is the biggest local sports story of 2012? Voting on ksby.com begins December 28, after all ten nominees have been announced.
