A new survey found many people aren't as loyal as they used to be when it comes to travel.
The survey says it's because airlines and hotels aren't as loyal as they used to be either.
Even the airlines admit getting a seat using rewards points is exceedingly difficult.
That may explain why the travel industry's loyalty programs have lost loyalty and many people aren't cashing in on the perks that are offered.
The survey estimates people are not using 16 billion dollars worth of reward points every year.
Many travelers also make reservations online, with value and convenience more important than brand.
This puts the burden on the travel industry to win back customers who might want the pampering more than the points.
