University of Portland freshman Tori Troesch returned to her hometown and won the decisive match to deliver a 4-3 road victory over Cal Poly on Mustang Courts on Friday afternoon.
With the dual tied 3-3, the San Luis Obispo High graduate beat Cal Poly freshman Anna Klavins 6-2, 6-4 to give the Pilots the victory. Portland improved to 8-8 on the year, while Cal Poly dropped its fourth-straight dual and fell to 3-14 overall.
Cal Poly captured the doubles point to open the day. Alexa Lee and Louis Oxnevad teamed up to beat Troesch and Valeska Hoath at #1 doubles 8-4. Ane McPike and Gabrielle Gatewood also won 8-4 to clinch the point for the Mustangs.
McPike, a St. Joseph High graduate, lost to Valeska Hoath at the #4 singles position 6-2, 603. Portland's Gatewood edged Saroop Dhatt 6-1, 6-4 in the #6 singles position.
Cal Poly's #1 singles player Louise Oxnevad fell 6-2, 6-4, while the Mustangs earned singles victories from #2 Jen Cornea (6-2, 6-2) and #3 player Alexa Lee (6-2,6-3).
The Mustangs return to Big West action next Saturday, April 6 at UCSB.
