Cal Poly's road woes continued on Wednesday with a 52-45 loss at UC Irvine in a Big West Conference game. The Mustangs fell to 2-9 away from home. They are 5-4 in Big West play and 9-10 overall.
Adam Folker had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead UC Irvine, while Daman Starring added 12 points for the Anteaters. UC Irvine ended the game on an 8-0 run without making a shot from the field to improve to 5-4 in conference and 11-11 for the year.
With 15 points, Chris Eversley was the only player in double figures for the Mustangs. Cal Poly went scoreless after Dylan Royer's 3-pointer gave them a 45-44 lead with 2:35 remaining.
Starring, Alex Young, Michael Wilder and Chris McNealy made two free throws each in the final 1:58 for UC Irvine. Meanwhile, Cal Poly had a turnover, missed two free-throw attempts and went 0 for 3 from the floor down the stretch.
Cal Poly shot 34.9 percent (15 of 43). UC Irvine had held 12 opponents under 40-percent shooting this season.
The Mustangs play at first place Long Beach State on Saturday at 4 p,m. The game will be televised on Fox Prime Ticket.
