It's not too strong a statement to say that the strength of the arts in any community is proportional to that community's willingness to provide financial support.
In fact, without corporate sponsors, charitable bequests, and private donations, most museums, galleries, playhouses, symphony orchestras, and events organizations just could not survive.
In today's Local Spotlight, UCSB Arts & Lectures, now in its 53rd year, is launching a major fundraising campaign and Winter Festival.
Beginning Monday, there will be two weeks of daily events, and guest artists--like Jazz at the Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis. Other events include the best movies from the 37th Annual Banff Mountain Film Festival. In fact, the Winter Festival will present all sorts of prominent guest artists, writers, dancers, doctors, cartoonists, PBS journalist Gwen Ifill, physicist Brian Greene,... even a polar explorer recounting some missteps in journey that nearly ended in disaster.
The fundraising goal is $20 million dollars, a guaranteed support system that will guarantee UCSB Arts & Lectures will remain a vibrant force on the Central Coast for decades to come.
