Sean Ullrich hit a grand slam to lead the San Luis Obispo Blues to a 7-5 victory over the Santa Paula Halos on Monday night. The Blues, who climbed to #5 in the nation in the latest poll, were already up 1-0 when Ullrich, a Missouri sophomore, clubbed a long ball to left-center field to put the Blues up 5-0 in the first inning.
Aaron Attaway followed with his own solo homer in the top of the second to put the Blues up 6-1. Attaway was 2 for 5 the night after he went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI in Sunday's win..
The Halos crept up with a run each in the seventh and eighth innings, but two Halos errors in he top of the eighth lead to a run by Blake Allemand off a single by Daniel Garner to put the score at 7-3.
Blues pitcher Blake Whitter then gave up two runs on three hits to bring the Halos within 2. Tyler King and Blake Whitter combined to strike out the final four batters of the game to clinch the road victory.
The two-time defending California Collegiate League champions improved to 9-4 in league games and 21-5 overall. The Blues will meet the Santa Barbara Foresters on the road Tuesday at 5 p.m.
SLO returns home to host the rival Foresters on Wednesday at 6pm followed by a game with the Halos on Thursday at 6 pm.
