It's one of the Central Coast's favorite crops and the U.S. Department of Agriculture says it's going to be another good year for avocados.

It says last season's crop was larger than average and this year is expected to be another big one.

It also says Americans are eating more avocados these days, more than four-and-a-half pounds per person annually.

That's more than double the amount from a decade ago.

"Depending on your personal taste buds, it's that creaminess or that buttery flavor of it that just you can't get enough of it," said Alan Cavaletto, general manager of Morro Creek Ranch, an avocado farm in Morro Bay.

The report says avocado demand has surpassed the demand for fresh pears and peaches.
